A cold - windy - long long long race...There was silver ware up for grabs and some keen people to be in to win...  A huge effort was held by everyone who chose to compete and the course proved to be just too challenging to a very few who decided to turn in at the church and call it a day...  others found a return trip in a car was an easier option - but hey at the end of the day, you all got out there and gave it a go.  More than I can say for some of us who chose to seek shelter behind a hedge or two until riders started to come back.Well done to those who held the Silver up at the end of the day, and it was a privilege to see such cups presented to the deserving riders - and excellent achievement.Again we had some awesome volunteers - Thank you to ladies who battled the wind to hold onto the finish sheets for me and record the numbers.   I would just like to say to all those who acknowledge the helpers on the day, it is really appreciated by us all to accept your thanks - some-times the day proves a bit challenging, but when you guys show your appreciation it makes our day worth while.  I know, I know, - all warm and fuzzy, but a little bit - goes a long way. Anyway this weekend will be a good warm up for the Club Champs next Weekend, so treat it as a good hard training event and keep those legs turning. Last Sunday - Manawatu Novice Tour was held down Palmerston / Ashurst way - Katie O'Neil, Vladimir Stewart, Cassie Cameron and Matt Noble competed - a harrowing day of unfortunate weather.  Four stages were held over the day starting at 8.30am - which meant I had to get out of bed at 5.30am new time!! ( 4.30am Old Time!!) and for any one who knows me well, "I do not do mornings" - hence an extremely long day for me and probably those who had to put up with me as well.  But all in all our junior club members did extremely well and I think we were all impressed with the stamina and strong riding abilities.  Results can be found on the Marist Website - but congrats to all who competed, it was a huge day of crammed racing.                                                                                                          Club ChampionshipsClub Championships 10 October - Oceania Circuit - I will let you all know more details early next week - but just a heads up 'there is definitely a few little hills in there.                                                                                                                       TrackTrack this Sunday 4 October 2009 - Everyone is welcome to come along and give it a go - (provided the weather is good), we are planning to kick start at around  1.30ish.Prize money up for grabs.  Normal entry fees apply, Bikes are available to hire, please contact either Sue O'Neil or Stuart Milham, bar will be open, jug will be on and sausages will be sizzling.      Track NationalsIf any one is interested in competing in the Track Nationals early 2010 - please contact Trevor Gudsell asap                                                                                  NationalsDon't forget to let me know if you wish to compete and I will register you accordingly.  Clive and I are taking the Club Trailer down 19 October, so if you have bikes, trainers, bags etc that you would like us to take - let us know.  I will send further notification out in the very near future.                                                                                       Summer Series ProgrammePreparation is under way and Club Members will be notified once finalised.                                                                                                            OceaniaIf you would like to give this a go - please contact Trevor Gudsell                        Club Jack PotYoung Mr Duncan Appleton rode away from the Clubrooms last week with an extra $50.00 in is pocket - Well done Duncan. This week we are back to $25.00, don't forget you need to be there to collect if your name is drawn.                                                       Just the Normal from here on down >>> Riding ResultsAs usual we will be at the Club-rooms from 4.30pm onwards with the days riding results (this may alter depending on how quick you ride, the same people running the event also open the club-rooms)  - please note it takes a while to sort all the results from the days racing, so we thank you for your patience in advance. Tea & CoffeeThere will be Tea, Coffee and Biscuits available  - and we welcome everyone's company (bar will be open). Lucky Prize Draw - Jackpot $25.00- Drawn 6pm Every Club Race DayCongratulations Duncan Appleton $50.00 last week - hope you shouted Mum and Dad dinnerAll financial club members & volunteers names will be put into the draw to be in to win $25.00 - Club members have to be present at the draw otherwise it will Jack Pot to the following race day until Struck!! Thanks everyone - and see you on Saturday!!! :)  May the wind this weekend be behind youand the sun shining upon you

Hi Everyone 10/09/P1060556.jpg20099

  • Well it has been a busy busy couple of weeks for all....  Last weekend was as successful as my order for good weather.  Yes we were blessed with the most amazing weather for both race days...  obviously some-one was looking down on us.

  • The Grand Prix went off pretty well and I think most enjoyed the competition and the course.  There obviously were a few people unsettled in regards to their grades, but please remember we cant run a grade for every individual, and we accommodated most requests prior to race time.
  • There was certainly some real talent out there on the course and our guys gave it their best shot, and ended up on the results board; so well done to everyone.  Again a Big Thank You to the Mass of volunteers we had on board - we certainly could not have done it without you all.  I for one was quite relieved to know that I didn't have to be on the finish line, so big hugs to the volunteers doing this task. The marshalling was well taken care of, including lead and follow vehicles, the guys on the motorbikes and the people on the corners with flags.  Our ladies again on the registration table (who I might add were tested from time to time) and we cant forget the lovely ladies that kept the coffee flowing and the pies hot in the kitchen.  Over all I really believe it was a successful day and everyone involved gave it their all!!  And hope those who won a little change for their wallets enjoyed the event.

  • The Criterium was a tad exciting - fast and furious racing, Wanganui showed strong talent and again showed in the results.  A lot of work behind the scenes went on and an early start for most organisers...  plenty of traffic control and barriers had to be set up before allowing any riders on the course.  Congrats to all who participated and hung in there for the full race.  Again a bit of prize money went up and we hope that you all enjoyed the event.

  • Of course we can all sleep in this Saturday - Yipee I finally have a day where I can catch up on some domestic chores (no excuses)...  Sunday opens to our Time Trial Club Champs - this event is being run in conjunction with open TT, so please make our neighbouring guests feel welcome.  We will be setting up relatively early, but registration will be around the 9:00ish mark.  As you are competing against the clock I can not foresee any grade issues at this stage, but please remember if you do have a discussion point please ask the ladies at the registration table who to see, the ladies are not the ones who make the rules and enjoy just doing the job they are intended for.  I have spoken again to the weather man, he said he is a bit busy with other requests, but will do his best to deliver us a sunny, non-windy day.

  • Reminder Nationals in October registrations will be due soon - they are to be sent via the Club Secretary - so please let me know if you are intending on competing.  An e-mail notification would be fine for now - and I will inform you all of process once confirmed.
  • Hope to see you on Sunday - enjoy your Saturday snooze in....

Hi Everyone
What we all have been up toP1060574.jpg
As mentioned earlier we have had a amazingly busy couple of weekends : Grand Prix, Criterium, WCNI Junior Road Champs & The Time Trial - we dished out over $5000.00 in prize money (thank you to our sponsors and supporters) and some pretty fine silver-ware and medals...  A huge 'Congrat's' to all...
Circulation
We are currently working on a document to be circulated to everyone to officially report on the success and the learnings from the recent events - feedback has been received and once collated and formatted I will distribute accordingly - but just a heads up, you will have to have a nice cuppa (or coldy) handy and be comfortable - it should be a good read.
The Time Trial
Great to see a good turn out of local and visiting competitors in our latest event 'The Time Trial', we had a good expansion of ages and abilities,
No excuses this week guys...  no being put in the wrong category, no being cut off, no being drafted off and no burglars!!, the whole event went on your own ability and the results were a reflection.
To our early birds, it was good to see the enthusiasm, and even the one or two who showed up with injuries to participate still.  My weather man was again on our side, we had a light wind with a little bit of cloud, but we were blessed yet again with a day full of sunshine.
We finished the day off with a couple of sausages on the Bar B, followed by prize giving - an excellent turn out and congratulations to all who got to hold the silver-ware.  Thank you to Laurence Sunde and Bill Main for presenting the trophies, and expressing some wise words in regards to the event and riding.
Time Trial Responsibility Avoidance
I spent most of the day trying to avoid the timing machines - only to find out that this event is one of the easiest to work out the results, teach me for thinking I was being clever - so 'Thank You' to Andrea Gudsell for taking on this task in my avoidance 'you are a star',
and to Trevor for taking on the holders job, not a job to be taken lightly I believe!  Then we had Kevin on his trusty steed running about all over the course to ensure no-one was cheating, Clive and Stuart ensuring all grades turned when they needed to, Noel supplied the most important apparatus of the day 'The Dunny', which I believe we really just cant do without now, what a great initiative!  I must also mention Mr & Mrs Kent, who run around like headless chickens prior to any of our events - without all these people the clock would stop and all the cogs would fall out.
All about You
But; in saying all that, the most important people to the club are those who show up week after week and compete, without you we would be wasting our time, it is great to see the red faces through share exhaustion coming over the finish line, the aching legs and breathless expressions and hearing all the excuses under the sun being expressed between the riders.  It makes our job worthwhile at the end of the day, when we go back to the club rooms and receive awesome feedback and are able to share stories and have a few laughs - thanks guys you are a real hoot!!
Mug Shots and Harmless Yarns Wanted
If you are in possession of any photos of the above mentioned events or any yarns that you would like to share, please feel free to provide them to either myself or Kevin Cate.  Kevin is currently working hard to keep our website updated, and we always need something new to add.  So please don't hold back - if you think it is safe enough to publish, then we can do that for you.  Also we welcome any ideas and/or feedback in regards to the Website - it is our biggest window for people to see in, so lets utilise this modern technology and take advantage to promote Wanganui Cycling.
More Serious Stuff - This Weekend Saturday 19th September - Circuit Change
We were scheduled to be riding in Marton, Tutaenui Road Circuit - due to organisers / helpers not being available, we have had to change the circuit as follows:
When: Saturday 19th September
Time:  Registration 1pm onwards
Start Time: 1.30pm
Where: Brunswick Hall, Western Line Circuit
A Grade = 5 Laps, approx 55km
B Grade = 3 Laps, approx 33km
Rec & U15's = 2 Laps, approx 22km
We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but given the light hands this week, we are unable to ensure full marshalling and we will not compromise the safety of our riders - the Western Line course is close to home and easily navigated.
Thanks again to everyone for your welcome support, ideas and encouragement - keep up the good riding and attendance...
Tina :)
